چکیده

Various tests have been done of the STIS using internal wavecals to measure thermal motion of the spectral format on the detectors. In most cases, the spectral format moves less than the speci cation not to exceed 0.2 pixels per hour. Primary causes of the motion are 1) changes to the thermal design dictated by the warmer Aft Shroud environment and 2) on-orbit power cycling of MAMA electronics to minimize the e ects of radiation hits on the MAMA detectors. The rear portion of the STIS optical bench is too warm to be held at a constant temperature by internal heaters. Electronics swing in temperature with an orbital and daily frequency. The thermal drift of the optical formats is not negligible, but is well-behaved in most circumstances. The observer is advised to examine the trade-o between the most accurate wavelengths with best spectral/spatial resolutions versus increased overheads that directly a ect the observing times. A long term concern is that the Aft Shroud thermal environment is predicted to heat up as much as one Centigrade degree per year. Progressively more of the bench would move out of thermal control. Thus the external cooler for STIS, being considered for the Third Servicing Mission is of major importance to the long term operation of STIS.

Proper Motion confirms the optical identification of the nearby pulsar PSR 1929 + 10 1

We report on the proper motion measurement of the proposed optical counterpart of the X-ray/radio pulsar PSR 1929+10. Using images obtained with the HST/STIS (average epoch 2001.73) we computed a yearly displacement of +97±1 mas yr in RA and +46±1 mas yr in Dec since the epoch (1994.52) of the original HST/FOC detection. Both the magnitude and direction of the optical proper motion components a...

STIS Model Based Charge Transfer Inefficiency Correction

The STE-CF Calibration Enhancement effort for the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) aims to improve data calibration via the application of physical modelling techniques. As part of this effort we have developed a model of the STIS CCD readout process that is able to correct STIS data for charge transfer inefficiency (CTI). The model itself is described in some detail in earlier ISRs....

Thermal Annealing Influence over Optical Properties of Thermally Evaporated SnS/CdS Bilayer Thin Films

Thin films of tin sulfide/cadmium sulfide (SnS/CdS) were prepared bythermal evaporation method at room temperature on a glass substrate and then annealedat different temperature with the aim of optimizing the optical properties of the materialfor use in photovoltaic solar cell devices. The effect of annealing on optical propertiesof SnS/CdS film was studied in the temper...

Robot Motion Vision Part II: Implementation

The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...

Computation Optical Flow Using Pipeline Architecture

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...
